Blum releases CLIP top BLUMOTION
Blum introduces individual design to Melbourne at designEX 2011
Australia – March, 2011
Blum is excited to announce their participation in Australia’s leading design and architecture event, designEX 2011. Occupying 72m², with over 50 individual products on display and applications devoted to the entire home, exciting developments from Blum can be viewed at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 13th April – 15th April 2011.
Functionality is brought to the forefront with the inclusion of Blum’s soon to be released CLIP top BLUMOTION hinge and electrical support system for overhead lifts, SERVO-DRIVE for AVENTOS. The TANDEMBOX intivo line allows drawer individualisation with the harmoniously designed pull-out. Available in three colours and limitless BOXCOVER alternatives TANDEMBOX intivo is only limited by imagination.
Also a feature at designEX 2011; the TANDEMBOX intivo Design Configurator is Blum’s newest design tool. The Design Configurator’s main purpose is to try out different pattern suggestions for glass and imitation leather in a virtual TANDEMBOX intivo pull-out. This enables you to see what the different patterns would look like on the finished pull-out.
Alicia Draper, Blum Marketing Communications Manager comments, “This year is all about making not only your kitchen, but your home work for you. Blum is vanguard in terms of functionality which is paramount in all of our products. However, design and individualisation, personal tastes and consumer needs are being explored; as are tools to make the planning process enjoyable”.
Integrated streamline joinery is a trend which is here to stay. Complete home applications such as home entertainment, bathroom, home office and wardrobes are an important part of Blum’s display. The significance of quality functional hardware and ease of use should echo throughout the entire home.
“Integrated kitchens and living areas are a trend which continues to grow stronger due to social changes within home living. Television, the internet and varying, busy lifestyles have forced us to knock down walls and open our homes to create more interaction”, says Alicia. Cabinets fitted with soft closing drawers such as TANDEMBOX and open with a touch thanks to SERVO-DRIVE are becoming standard.
In addition to creating togetherness, the appearance of cabinets throughout the entire home has become streamlined fashioning clean surfaces with custom storage solutions. Effortless function is also key and is becoming more prominent during the design process.
Blum turns the opening and closing of furniture into a graceful and enhanced kitchen experience. For over 50 years, quality has been the highest principal for the development and manufacture of Blum products. Their fitting systems epitomise excellent quality with their well-thought-out function, recognised design and durability.

Salter Point – French Provincial
Design Brief
The clients were moving into a new home in Salter Point and were looking for a kitchen that would work with the changing demands of a family.
The design brief required a kitchen that was highly functional yet full of character and warmth with a traditional feel. Plenty of storage space to keep the kitchen from looking cluttered was also requested.
Design Solution.
The design evolved over a series of meetings until it was decided that a simplified version of the French provincial style would reflect the clients’ wishes most appropriately.
A feature area housing the canopy was decided upon as the focal point in the kitchen.
It was important to the clients that they had effective pantry and storage space. As a result the kitchen was designed with a large number of drawers enabling the client to maximize storage. Where smaller drawers were
required internal drawers fitted with Orga-line dividers were supplied in two areas to enable cutlery, cooking utensils and preparation items to be stored effectively.
Ultimately the kitchen has a French provincial feel but with all the conveniences of interiors designed by the modern Blum brand.
Gwellup
Design Brief:
Located in Gwellup this ultra-modern home required an ultra-modern kitchen but with some warm texture to match the furniture, a large open plan room with views over the water made for an attractive back drop to this kitchen, the clients were a young professional couple who wanted the kitchen to blend in with their surroundings, with some very definite ideas for the island.
Design Solution:
Although the back L-shape of the kitchen was to be made in gloss white and to be kept very simple the island was to be made the feature of the room, utilising Milano Walnut in a cross grain format, gave the face of the cabinets instant impact, with no handles, the sleek lines were enhanced with the slimline stainless steel benchtop.
The top has a 20mm facia, with an integrated commercial double bowl sink, featuring no overhang to the edges to give a cube effect to the whole island unit.
Nedlands
Design Brief.
Sleek and stunning
To design a kitchen and laundry area as part of extensive renovations to an apartment overlooking the swan river.
The brief was to create a functional area whilst maximizing the river views and creating a look was aesthetically pleasing. The area in question presented a number of challenges so a several design solutions were considered until the most effective layout evolved. It was decided to combine the kitchen and laundry, but to do so we built the laundry equipment behind cabinet doors so that a clean finish could be achieved. All Miele appliances were used to blend in with the high quality finishes used throughout the kitchen.
Design Solution.
It was decided that a combination of a warm horizontal timber veneer in Waxed Oak and the clean lines of the engineered stone with waterfall ends would create the most effective look.
Stainless steel was introduced in glass door elements to tie in the appliances.Either side of the range hood were lift up style aluminum doors with lighting inside the cabinets. Two long sleek glass cabinets were constructed to frame the area connecting the kitchen to the living area. Blum tandembox drawers were used throughout to create maximum efficiency within the cabinets. The clients requested one area of colour which was used in the stunning red splashback as the finishing touch.
Claremont – Bespoke Face Frame
Design Brief
The clients approached European Kitchens for a specific style of kitchen to create harmony in their beautifully restored Claremont home.
They requested very traditional cabinetry, with framed doors, and other features that enhanced the traditional style, for that extra presence.
The clients also required the convenience of modern functional drawers, while keeping a close eye on aesthetics.
Design Solution.
European Kitchen Design worked closely with the client on every aspect of the design, from the basic doors and the colour tone of the paint, to each detail of the elaborate cornice, taking some months for the design stage to be completed and a further several months to build and install, this was a major kitchen design.
